The Open Racing Car Simulator (or TORCS) is an open source 3D racing simulator.
TORCS is designed to enable pre-programmed AI drivers to race against one another, while allowing the user to control a vehicle using either a keyboard, mouse, or wheel input. The official website states the concept is derived from RARS (the Robot Auto Racing Simulator).
TORCS is based upon the open source, cross-platform libraries OpenGL, Mesa 3D and OpenGL Utility Toolkit. Given this, it has been confirmed to run on the following platforms:
* Linux, o PowerPC Architectures o Non-SMP Architectures * FreeBSD, * Mac OS X, * Microsoft Windows
TORCS was initially written by Eric Espié and Christophe Guionneau, substantial parts have been added by other contributors. The TORCS source code is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL), most of the artwork is licensed under the Free Art License.
