Thunderbird 2b2

First you have to get Thunderbird 2 beta 2...

1. Go to the download page, and choose your language and click Download in the Linux i686 column. This will download the package.

2. Now it's time to move it to your home folder, as this will not be a system wide installation. So drag the downloaded file to your home folder from where ever it is.

3. It time to unpack the file now. Right click the file in Konqueror and choose Extract Here or execute this in Konsole:
tar xvzf thunderbird-2.0b2.tar.gz
This will make a thunderbird-2.0b2 folder in your

home dir.

4. check that the "thunderbird" file inside your thunderbird dir is executable first ... If it runs when you double click it you've done it the right way. You can now execute Thunderbird from your application launcher in the KDE Panel.if not , run in Konsole this command:
 sudo chmod 775 /home/yourhomedir/thunderbird-2.0b2/thunderbird 

5. Rightclick your KDE Panel, choose "Panel Menu" ,choose "add application to panel" and click on "Add non-KDE application". Image:Addthunderpanelsmwo.jpg

6. Now you can fill out this box as this: Image:Thunderbirdbutton.jpg

  • Button Title: You can put here what you want. Thunderbird is my choice.
  • Description: Will be shown when you hoover your mouse over the button.
  • Executable: Is where you have your thunderbird file.
  • Commandline arguments: Leave this blank.
  • Run in a Terminal Windows: Unchecked.

Click on the square with the icon to choose, if you want original thunderbird icon, choose "Other Icons" and browse to the icons directory in your thunderbird folder.
