How To Use Gmail in Kmail

Before using your Gmail account in Kmail, you should activate POP3 service from your gmail account. To do that, login your Gmail account and click Settings from upper right corner. Click Forwarding and POP tab and enable POP service in POP download section. Then click Save Changes button.

Now open Kmail using Pardus > Programs > Internet > Kmail (Mail Client). Click Settings from menu and go to Configure Kmail.

For a proper configuration you should have an identity to make your Kmail work. If you just skip steps at the first opening of Kmail you should at least fill your e-mail address to make it work. Be sure that you have an e-mail address on your identity. Now we can link our gmail account to Kmail. Click Accounts icon from left.

Now on recieving tab click Add. Select POP3 radio button and press OK.

You're on general tab. You should fill the form with your Gmail username and password.

Account Name: Name of your account to remind you which account you're using.
Login: Your Gmail login name.
Password: Your Gmail password.
Hostname: pop.gmail.com
Port: 995
Store POP Password: If you want Kmail to remember your password you should tick that option.

Now you should go to Extras tab and select Use SSL for secure mail download. Press OK.

Now you can login your Gmail account and receive your incoming mails. It's time to configure SMTP to send mails. You should click Sending tab from Accounts section.

Now click Add button from right and select SMTP radio button. Press OK.

In General tab you should fill the form with your Gmail username and password. Check Server requires authentication to fill your Gmail username and password.

Name: Name of your account to remind you which account you're using.
Host: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Server Requires Authentication: Checked
Login: Your Gmail login name.
Password: Your Gmail password.
Store SMTP Password: If you want Kmail to remember your password you should tick that option.

Now you should click Security tab and select SSL radio button. Press OK.

Apply your settings window actions. Congratulations, you started to use your Gmail account with Kmail.
